Oklahoma heats mostly with gas and electricity, but the Census Bureau's 2024 survey counts 99,692 homes heated mainly with propane, 6.2 % of occupied homes. In the EIA's weekly survey of October 19, 2026, Oklahoma propane averaged $2.352 a gallon, 27th of 38 states counting from the dearest and $0.337 below the U.S. average. Over the winters on file, the state's November to March average has ranged from $1.530 in 2015-16 to $2.685 in 2021-22; last winter it was $2.231. A normal Oklahoma winter counts 3,185 heating degree days over those five months, so the EIA's average propane home in the South would burn about 575 gallons, $1,353 at this week's price. Heating oil is not surveyed in Oklahoma. Prices exclude taxes and delivery fees.
From wholesale to the house

Oklahoma and its neighbors
This week Oklahoma propane is $0.785 cheaper than Texas's average, $0.278 dearer than Kansas's, $0.244 cheaper than Arkansas's and $0.171 dearer than Missouri's. Those gaps change from week to week, and a dealer's price can sit well above or below its state's average; the propane table ranks every surveyed state.
A short, sharp winter
NOAA's normals give Oklahoma 798 heating degree days in December and 844 in January, about 80 % of a Kansas January. A propane tank therefore lasts longer than further north, but a cold snap can still empty it faster than the average suggests. The days-left calculator turns a gauge reading into a date at the normal pace, and the winter budget spreads the cost. Per million Btu at the ENERGY STAR furnace rating, Oklahoma propane heat costs $29 this week; the comparison page sets it against an electric heat pump. The federal LIHEAP ceiling for three people in Oklahoma is $48,649 a year; the LIHEAP page gives the ceiling for every household size.
